Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life in Christ Jesus,
To Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
I am thankful to God, whom I serve from my forefathers with a pure conscience, as I have the remembrance of you unceasingly in my prayers, night and day,
longing to see you, recalling your tears, so that I may be filled with joy,
having taken remembrance of the sincere faith within you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that it is in you also.
For this reason I remind you to kindle anew the gift of God, which is in you by the laying on of my hands.
For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power, and of love, and of self-control.
Therefore you should not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me, His prisoner; but suffer together for the gospel, according to the power of God,
the One having saved us and having called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, having been given us in Christ Jesus before time eternal,
and now having been made manifest by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, having abolished death and having brought to light life and immortality through the gospel,
to which I was appointed a herald, and an apostle, and a teacher.
For this reason I also suffer these things. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that He is able to guard my deposit entrusted for that day.
Retain the pattern of sound words, which you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
Keep the good deposit entrusted to you by the Holy Spirit, the One dwelling in us.
You know this, that all those in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes.
May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he refreshed me often, and he was not ashamed of my chain.
But having arrived in Rome, he earnestly sought me out and found me.
May the Lord grant unto him to find mercy from the Lord in that day! And you know very well how much he served in Ephesus.
